About the exhibition

The UniCredit Bank Art Collection is a collection of Russian art of the 1920s-1930s. The organizers wish to communicate the particular ethical significance of much of the art of the time, born as it was in dialogue with avant-garde, and the special role it played and continues to play in Russia.

The art on display played a role in forming the humanist culture, becoming a repository of moral meaning in the twentieth century. The exhibition provides a historical and cultural context for the modern viewer to contemplate this role in the early years of the third millennium. UniCredit Bank sees its art collection as a contribution to a social dialogue that engenders a new understanding of the cultural experience of the 20th century.

The image of one of the key works of the collection, Tsar’s Courtiers by the famous Russian artist and theatrical decorator Konstantin Chebotarev (1892-1974), was chosen to emblazon a specially-designed limited-issue UniCredit Private Banking WorldElite™ MasterCard®.

Keeping with tradition, the UniCredit Bank exhibition gives private collectors a chance to talk about their acquisitions. This year, alongside works from the UniCredit Bank collection, we are pleased to present rare works by Nikolai Prokoshev, Arseny Schultz, Georgy Shchetinin, Lev Zebin and Alexander Rittikh.
